Feels like the Euthyphro debate played again. By the way, if one wanted to read a decent, first introduction to methaethics, what would you recommend?

The only introductions I know of seem better suited to someone with some knowledge of the field already. I have quite literally never seen a genuinely introductory source on metaethics; at least not one I'd endorse.

Well, that's a bit of a bummer. I really wanted to give a fair trial to the best arguments for realism and antirealism.

There are books. I just wouldn't call them introductory. Are you interested in something more entry-level or something for someone who studies philosophy?

Let me see... Perhaps it's best is I give my background. i studied philosophy in high school and (less so, but a bit) at Uni. Read some histories of the area (François Châtelet's) and some books (a bit of Plato, a bit of Aristotle, some Utilitarians, a bit of Nietzsche). Mostly, European (no Analytic Philosophy) and some philosophy of math. What I was mostly looking for now was a good volume, or more than one, that would present as clearly and objectively as possible the case for moral realism and anti-realism. I think I could handle a level 'for someone who studies philosophy' as long as it isn't extremely jargon-laden and requires lots of technical information.
